My mother

Leoper Nyatando

I am successful today.

I am also upright,

respectful and respected.

I owe all this to you, mum.

Your teachings and mentoring, I shall forever cherish.

It’s you who taught me discipline, patience, politeness and perseverance.

You stood by me when I needed you most.

You were by my side when things were bad.

In times of misery and pain, you did not forsake me.

You endured harsh weather conditions in search of my daily bread.

They mocked you because of me, a burden on your back.

Tearfully, you persevered.

By God’s grace, here I am, your proud daughter.

Regrets are not part of your vocabulary.

Joy is now your second name.

Peace of mind is now your new culture.

A role model you are.

With your head high, you can afford a smile.

Motherhood is a rough and bumpy ride.
