‘My mum dumped my musical kit in a toilet’

BUDDING musician, Munyaradzi Undi, has revealed how his mother threw his musical kit into a pit latrine as she believed it promoted drug and substance abuse.

Munyaradzi, who goes by the name Fire Cracker, said the incident almost destroyed his dream of becoming a musician.

The Afro-fusion musician, who now resides in Chinhoyi, said he persevered until he managed to convince his mother of his vision.  “My mother was very angry when she found out that I was assembling my kit to start a career in music and dumped it all in a pit latrine.

“She thought that I was taking drugs and alcohol to boost my confidence,” said Munyaradzi.

He released his debut album, Gavakava, last year, but bemoaned lack of funding to promote his talent.

“I am convinced that I am talented, but the main challenge at the moment is lack of funds. I keep praying that I get financial support,” he said.

He remains committed to showcasing his talent and putting his home area of Zvimba on the music map.

He has also set his sights on collaborating with artistes like Jah Master, Kinnah and others.
