My Own Boss contestants meet business greats

The contestants have been in boot camp from 16 July and will exit on Saturday.
Four contestants from Bulawayo will represent the province in this year’s edition of the television series.

The four are Ngonidzashe Killian Mudzimu (26), Sandisiwe Mahlangu (28), Thamsanqa Bhala Ndlovu (20) and Knowledge Nyenyayi (24).

In a statement yesterday, My Own Boss Buy Zimbabwe Edition spokesperson Rumbidzai Matinanga said this week the 20 contestants will do their first task of producing a magazine.

She said finance guru Nigel Chanakira, managing director of Willowvale Motor Industries Dawson Mareya and AAG Vice President and CEO of One Turn Mining Chamu Chiwanza were among the business people who took them through the mentorship programme.

“Econet chairman and founder of TN Holdings Tawanda Nyambirai, founder and CEO of SECURICO Divine Ndhlukula were also at the boot camp. This week the young champions will be doing their first task which involves producing a magazine with content from the various life and business lessons they learnt from the mentors.

“The rest of the week they will be mentored by triumphant and thriving businessman, Mr Philip Chiyangwa, Mr Albert Mandizha general manager of the Grain Marketing Board and many more before the end of the week,” said Matinanga.

She said the experience of working in a group would be invaluable and the contestants would take their experiences and use them when they continue in their businesses.

“This introduces them to the world of publishing plus the initiative from the contestants is that their peers who have potential to be entrepreneurs but did not get the same opportunity as they did to witness the great entrepreneurs above can read and get inspiration to start their own businesses,” said Matinanga.

She said presentations from the contestants showed that the journey to come up with the proposals was not easy but was completed by determination.

“The one thing that was clearly evident in all their presentations was that the journey is never easy but faith, character, passion and moral support will keep you going. Enhancing oneself in your area of expertise so as to always be relevant to the market was imperative and a must-do so that outwitting competition will be a challenge you look forward to every morning,” said Matinanga.

She said all was set for the launch of the series on 3 August when the final 14 will be chosen.

Production will begin on 6 August when they enter the house and tasks will end on 20 October. Production of the film will end on 2 November the day of the grand finale.
