Auditions for the ZBC/TV entrepreneurial reality show “My Own Boss” Season 5 have been going on well.
At the weekend, provincial auditions were rounded up with Victoria Falls being the last one to be auditioned and names for those who qualified for the next auditions have since been released.
The executive producer of the show, Simanga Zhou, said they were impressed by the turnout from all provinces especially from Bulawayo and Harare.
“This year’s turnout is impressive it has shown that Zimbabwe has a lot of raw talent which only needs exposure,” he said.
He maintained that Bulawayo was the best province followed by Harare. His sentiments were complemented with the sudden change of plans.
“Due to the overwhelming response we got, we have had to choose 44 contestants instead of the proposed 20. This is due to the level of raw talent that we came across in all the provinces, Bulawayo and Harare in particular. It pains me to see the talented individuals we had to leave behind as the set-up of a reality show cannot take that much.
“All who auditioned but did not make showed they had the potential to win the US $25 000 coveted prize as they proved that they were young, innovative entrepreneurs who look forward to be their own bosses,” he said.
He added that the 44 would be given provincial tasks in which 20 people are going to be evicted in the boardroom eviction set-up in the first round.
Zhou said the show will commence end of August or early September, since the exact dates were yet to be announced. This will be done before the final launch where 24 successful entrepreneurs will enter the My Own Boss House where all the action will be taking place.
The mentorship is facilitating US$5 000 loans for the 24 successful contestants from the Youth Empowerment Programme as the TV show is in partnership with the Zimbabwe Youth Council.
