‘My son is a thorn in the flesh, Your Worship’

HAVING been fed up by her son’s abuses and aggressiveness forced a heartbroken mother to seek the courts’ intervention. Ronald Harmony Mabhunu (32) was said to be a thorn in his mother, Rhoda Mabhunu’s flesh as she described him as abusive.  “Ronald blames me for causing his father to leave our matrimonial home about nine years ago. He harasses me and is in the habit of selling all household property. When I confront him, he always threatens me saying the property belongs to his father,” she said.
Rhoda told the court that Ronald usually came home drunk at around midnight and banged doors and windows demanding to see her, vandalising food and locks in the process.

“He breaks door and window locks in my presence, accusing me of failing to work for them so that we can have enough food in the house because as he claims, I threw out his father. Your Worship, at times I wonder if he really is my son or if someone swapped my baby at the hospital after I gave birth to him. He is 32 and not yet married. He still stays under my roof, terrorising me,” she cried.

Responding to his mother’s accusations, Ronald shifted the blame on her and accused her of trying to force him and his younger sister out of their father’s house.
“Everything that she is saying are fabrications. She is the one who has on several occasions told us openly that she wants us out of her property because we have reached the legal age of majority,” he remarked.

Mrs Chigodora, however, ordered Ronald to keep peace with his mother and also advised him that disrespecting his mother was a curse that he was bringing upon himself.
“I do not see any reason why your biological mother would lie and fabricate things against you in a court of law. The fact that you are already 32 and still living under her roof clearly describes how much she loves you.

“She would have applied for an eviction order against you, but she did not,” said Mrs Chigodora.
