Mzansi Magic unmasks SA’s ‘man of God’

you probably missed a lot on South Africa’s man-of-the moment prophet Paseka Motsoeneng.
Besides his prophetic skills and all that razzmatazz, Motsoeneng continues to hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

There were reports at the weekend about this self-styled prophet that he hurt his ex-lover Olipha Dube.
What followed next were outcries from all quarters that Motsoeneng was never arrested as they did with Olipha.
Olipha was arrested and released on R500 bail for allegedly intimidating Motsoeneng.
“The police also refused to add two counts of assaults against the controversial man of the cloth after he allegedly manhandled her twice and threatened her with violence,” the reports said.

I enjoyed Motsoeneng’s interview on Mzansi Magic and I don’t know how Kuli Roberts, the host of the show managed to convince the prophet to appear on such a grilling show.
The straight-talker Kuli asked the prophet two pertinent questions, which made the so-called man of God to stutter and stumble.
She asked him why he needs bodyguards and why he keeps his finger nails long?
And the answers we got were quite outrageous from a man who is touted as South Africa’s most wanted prophet.

The first answer he gave was that as a prophet he “was special” because he was doing God’s work.
And about his finger nails the prophet skirted around the question saying he possessed the spiritual powers and blah blah blah . . .
Recent reports also show that the controversial prophet Motsoeneng who leads The Incredible Happenings Ministry in South Africa is alleged to have used his “demon banishing” services as an excuse to molest and abuse young women.

He was also recently arrested together with his five bodyguards who were carrying unlicensed firearms.
Following the arrests, the prophet claimed that he was being “persecuted” by unidentified people.
According to South African laws, a person with at least five bodyguards would need permission from security services to do that since this is viewed as owning a private army.

Well, we need such kind of programmes like headlines on Mzansi Magic that brings us closer to the action and on the spot.
The channel has within a short space of time managed to bring all the entertainment news and snippets of show business mostly in South Africa.
Elsewhere on Mzansi Magic, there is Redi on Mzansi, a talk show that has featured interesting topics on the who’s who of South African entertainment and social circles.
Below are some of the programmes you dare not to miss on DStv:

  • BBC Entertainment (DStv Channel 120)
  • Dating in the Dark USA (Premiere): Is it possible to fall in love with someone you have spoken to intimately, whom you have touched but have never actually seen?

That’s the key question posed in Dating in the Dark USA, a revealing experiment in which three men and three women try to find a partner by looking with their hearts.
Never before have singles been given the opportunity of meeting and interacting for such a prolonged period without actually seeing one another.

DStv audiences can tune into BBC Entertainment on DStv every Thursday at 8pm to find out whether love really is blind.
Pick of the month
l BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 180)

Come Dine With Me (Season 3 Premiere): BBC Entertainment presents a third series of the popular primetime cookery show in which amateur chefs attempt to wow each other with their culinary and hospitality skills in order to win a cash prize.
The format is simple; chefs take turns to host a dinner party and the guests score the host on their way home.
Throughout, Come Dine With Me’s acerbic narrator never fails to make the most of the participants’ fumbles and foibles.

DStv audiences can tune into BBC Lifestyle every Monday at 18.30 to watch personality clashes at almost every dinner party.
And it’s often not just the champagne corks that go with a bang as insults are traded, homes are snooped around, and the flowing wine loosens the diners’ tongues.
Email of the week
I saw the article you wrote on Studio 263 last week, so l just thought l could add on something.

To be frank with you Jonathan, most people don’t watch it, rather they go for the popular South African soaps; Rhythm City, Scandal and Generations or the ever rising Nigerian soap Tinsel on DStv.
It’s not like we don’t want to but because its storyline changes daily, and it becomes so confusing and boring not to mention the cast, these people lack the energy, the vibe, the aura – in short the characteristics that’s needed for a good actor.

Besides that, the soap is so wayward, l mean the themes it majors on are not current affairs, it needs to move along with time just like the above mentioned soaps.
I think it’s high time they do some auditions for better cast and look for those who are really talented and intelligent, who can portray the character to make it real and understandable.
If you take a closer look at Brenda Nana Mensah – one of Tinsel’s cast, then you will know what l am talking about, she is on top of the game.

She portrays her character very well not to mention the rest of the cast – Bimpe, Telema, Soji, Angela, etc.
Tinsel recently celebrated their 500 episodes of good work and quality in style. What about Studio 263?
It reached 500 long back but nothing has changed.

For Studio 263 to become a good soap it needs to improve on its picture and sound quality, it’s very poor and irritating.
Maybe its time they opt for HD cameras and whatever is needed to bring quality.
Secondly, the script writers should be changed or should work hard on their English (vocabulary), it is flat, it needs to be challenging you know.

I guess that will do justice to the soap. My other concern is on ZBCTV in general.
Gosh, the channel is so boring and primitive, most people say Btv is so boring but tell you what, they rather go for it because of its good picture and sound quality and they view some current stuff.

Talk of ZBCTV, it screens old age movies and programmes like Walker Texas Ranger, William Tell in this age.
l was so shocked to learn that my father grew up watching those on ZBCTV and worse still it views them even today.
Moving on to the children’s programmes, how awful they are Pinocchio of all cartoons, Billy the Cat goodness – its terrible.

The so-called teenage programmes – Youth.Com, Teen Scene and Rhythm Unlimited are just as bad, one can easily tell that these are amateurs presenting the show and it aggravates things, dressed like they are going to all night prayers, their accents are not up to standard, they lack confidence. What on earth is that?

I am sure there are thousands of people who can do better but how would they know when they don’t host auditions.
If ZBCTV has nothing new to showcase then l guess it’s better to put a blank screen and play music, that would be even better.

Most of us only get to watch ZBCTV during news hour at eight o’clock but after that we change channels to SABC, M-Net, Africa Magic, E!, Style Network, Disney, Trace, etc.
At times l really wonder what our television license money is being used for because truly speaking it’s not worth it. Something should be done before it gets to a point where . . . (speechless).
Worried Viewer!
