Hip–hop artiste Webster Manjoro, better known as Mzimba (pictured below), celebrates his birthday in style tomorrow when he takes his act to Cresta Jameson Hotel’s Beer Engine for the launch of his debut album “November 3: And Then There was Me”.
The 12-track album was long overdue with Mzimba having released more than 40 singles to his name.
Long serving members of the urban grooves movement, Sanii Makhalima, Ngoni Kambarami, Leonard Mapfumo, Cindy Munyavi and Trevor Dongo will grace the launch.
“I have been in the game for years and what better way to celebrate my musical journey than with soldiers in the battle. We have grown together and have evolved from the days of bubblegum music,” said Mzimba.
He said he will unleash some hit songs from the album.
“The whole album is a hit and features songs that have made waves on local radio stations including ‘Newe Handigone’, ‘Wangu Waenda’ and ‘Shamwari Yepamoyo Yepamwoyo’, a duet with Rute Mbangwa, and have proven to be favourites among fans,” he said.
An interesting one, however, is “Ndine Zvikwereti” where he informs his debtors Sanii and Dino Mudondo that he hopes to pay back.
Mzimba, a comedian in his own right, has shown commendable growth that has seen him focusing on the business element of music.
“Although it pays more to release singles, an artiste is more credible in the eyes of stakeholders if he or she releases albums.”
He took time to applaud Zim dancehall artistes for scaling to greater heights, in a short time since its establishment locally. He, however, said other urban groovers should take a cue from them.
“Those guys are doing great things and credit goes to the unity among them and how they have people like Godfatha Templeman who are doing nothing else but push to have the genre get recognition in Zimbabwe and beyond,” he said.
The birthday album launch is being hosted by “Money Spender” boss Spenser of Platinum Entertainment.
