NaakmusiQ comes to Byo

SOUTH Africa’s NaakmusiQ (real name Anga Makubalo) will be heading to Zimbabwe next month for a show in Bulawayo.

The artiste performing and nominated for the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban this weekend, is billed to perform at Horizon Bar and Restaurant on August 8, at a show dubbed Call Out Party.

Popular for Call Out, DJ Fisherman’s song in which he features, NaakmusiQ, better known as the handsome MJ on South Africa’s Generations, is set to arrive in Bulawayo on the day of the show. He will share the Horizon stage with Bulawayo’s Defined House, UK-based DJ Mxolisi, South Africa’s DJ Crazy Dee, Joe The OG, Kead Wikead, Lacusto, Prince Que Bass, Nospa and Da Grooveman.

One of the organisers of the event, DJ Joe-Tha OG said they invited Naak because he was one of the artistes of the moment in the South Africa music industry.

“MJ will be coming with Team Naak dancers who’ll back him. We decided to host him as he’s the freshest thing in South Africa. He’s a multi-talented artiste who’s popular among youths,” Joe said.

With a string of hits including Qina to his name, the multi-talented South African artiste released his debut album Love and Music last year.

The musician and actor who was fired together with 15 other actors last year from Generations believes the move was actually a blessing in disguise for him as he now has time to focus on his other passion — music.

“My journey after Generations has been a pretty straightforward one. I’ve had a bit more time to be in the studio and actually focus on my music, hence the success of Call Out. Many things were needed, including my time, in order for the song to be completed, and that’s why it was a banger,” NaakmusiQ told South African media recently.

The talented actor has since landed another role on eTV’s new crime drama series Z’Bondiwe where he plays Ntando, a lawyer-turned-gangster.

“I was on holiday in Cape Town in January when I got a call from TV producer Roberta Durrant. She asked if I’d be interested in playing the character. I read the script and loved it, went for the screen test, which was sent to the channel who accepted. That’s how I got the role,” he explained.
