adminThe Redcliff meet will help in the selection of a team to represent the country at the Southern Region Cross-Country Championships and African Cross-Country Championships set for Mauritius and Cape Town, South Africa, on March 3 and 18.
For the first time in more than three years, Zimbabwe will host the Southern Region Youth championships later in the year.
NAAZ president, Joseph Mungwari, said the 2012 calendar had left room for the London Olympic Games preparations. They expect German athletics expert Ralph Mouchalbahani to confirm whether he will be able to help them.
“We are yet to get his confirmation on when he will be available for us,” said Mungwari.
Some of the competitions on the calendar include the International meet set for Mauritius on March 14-15, Africa Combined events in Mauritius on April 4 and the Steinmetz Gaborone Marathon on April 22.
The month of May will be the busiest internationally, starting with the Southern Region Junior Championships (in Namibia on May 5-6), IAAF World Race Walking Cup (Saransk, Russia, May 12-13) and the Southern Region Youth Championships. July will see the staging of IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, and the African Senior Championships set for Karvana, Benin, and the Olympics.
The IAAF World Half-marathon set for the Kavama, Bulgaria, is the last listed international event and will be held on October 6.
Major events such as the 21st February Movement 12km road race, Sunshine City, Kujatana Nkubotu, the Simon Muzenda Gutu Half-marathon and Victoria Falls Marathon are some of the regular high-profile events retained on the calendar.
