NATIONAL Athletics Association of Zimbabwe director for coaching, talent identification and development, Lisimati Phakamile, has challenged coaches from the just-ended International Level One Coaching course to put into practice what they learnt.

The course was held in Bulawayo with 16 participants taking part.

The course targeted coaches from grassroots development and it was facilitated by Phakamile.

“The course basically focused on the introduction to international coaching from the developmental stage of youth and junior athletes to national or elite performers.

“We looked into the scientific aspects of coaching athletics where we covered biomechanics analysis of athletics performance. We looked at physiological analysis of the athletes, the practical concept of coaching all the athletics events from the sprints up to the combined events.

“The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe is basically expecting these coaches who recently graduated from this course to go back to the field, start development programmes, start training and start producing athletes,” said Phakamile.

With more qualified coaches, the national association is hoping to bridge the gap between the number of coaches and athletes from grassroots level.

“So our aim is to assist all the organisations, all the associations that want to develop athletes by producing qualified coaches,” he said.
