NAAZ to hold coaching course for race walking

The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe will this month hold an Athletics Coach and Technical Official national course on race walking. Race walking was recently introduced in schools and at national athletics events. “This course will help our NAPH, NASH, Trust Schools, Clubs, Uniformed Forces and College teams for the forthcoming international competitions.

“Due to limited time by the internationally qualified instructors we are only going to have two venues so that coaches have time to implement the new skills and this will be at Northlea High School in Bulawayo and Prince Edward School Harare,” said Tendai Tagara, the NAAZ president.

Tagara said he was expecting school coaches, district and provincial heads in charge of athletics and club coaches to attend the course which will be held from the 29 to the 31st of January.

The former national athletics coach also sees it as an added advantage for athletes who are bound for Congo Brazzaville. “We shall be moving to conduct the training in the Provinces later in the year” said Tagara.

The course will be conducted by experts who went to Kenya to gain the expertise. Race walking needs to grow from primary to secondary school level as they usually hold regional competitions.

So far Cheneso Jack is the brightest prospect for Zimbabwe in the race walking African senior championships to be held in Durban, South Africa in June this year.
