NAC targets informal sector

The minister was addressing journalists in Harare during the release of the National Aids Council audited financial statement on Monday.
“The response is also financed through external support from donors and bilateral institutions including the Global Fund, the United States and United Kingdom governments,” Minister Madzorera said.
“However, with the prevailing economic situation the future remains unclear and as a country we have to find other ways of mobilising resources.”
Aids levy is deducted from taxable income of all workers who are formally employed and company taxes. He said NAC was pursuing an internal resource mobilisation programme to ensure resources from the informal sector were channelled towards the response.
“This will see more people benefiting from the services available in the response,” he said.
Minister Madzorera said it was everyone’s duty to take part in the response to HIV and Aids.
“The world Aids campaign message for 2012/13 emphasises the collective responsibility we all have in addressing HIV,” he said.
He said Government was committed to ensuring that all people living with HIV and Aids receive necessary treatment to improve the quality of life.
“It is with the same commitment that NAC and my ministry continue to strive to ensure that people living with HIV are fully involved in ensuring that high quality health care services are provided to all,” he said.
He said last week, a team of representatives of people living with HIV began the process of conducting community monitoring.
This team, he said, had started visiting various health institutions to carry out interviews with health care providers and clients.
The team would also monitor the performance of the anti-retroviral therapy programme on the ground. He said information gathered would be shared with NAC and the ministry to strengthen the ART programme in Zimbabwe. NAC coordinates the multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS in the country and administers the Aids Levy.
