FORMER Bantu Rovers midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has firmly asserted himself in the Belgian top flight log leaders Circle Brugge’s midfield where he has commanded a regular starting jersey since the start of the season.
The defensive midfielder joined Circle Brugge in June from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem and has proved to be a vital buy for the side that is leading the Jupiler league on 21 points after winning seven games and just losing one of their eight league matches played so far.
The Warriors’ midfielder, born in Hwange 23 years ago to former Chipangano goalkeeper, Anthony, has played 595 minutes of the team’s 630 minutes played so far.
Before joining Club Brugge, Nakamba had been on the radar of several European clubs including Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and another Belgian side Anderlecht.
His European adventure began with French club AS Nancy in 2012 before joining Vitesse two years later.
A vital cog of the Warriors’ Afcon squad, Nakamba has also won the hearts of the Circle Brugge supporters who have already seen him as a capable replacement for the club legend Timmy Simons. Nakamba is expected to be in action tomorrow when Circle Brugge takes on ninth placed Gent.
While Nakamba is enjoying his place in the sun in Belgium, fellow Zimbabwean and Warriors’ skippers Knowledge Musona’s side, KV Oostende is going through a terrible run that has seen them failing to pick up maximum points since the start of the season and for their troubles, they find themselves firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with just two points from two draws.
The Warriors’ skipper has, however, been a regular feature for the side and has a goal to his credit already this season.
KV Oostende is on the road this evening to middle placed side Kortrijk.
