ZIMBABWE captain, Marvelous Nakamba, could bounce back into the English Premier League as soon as this weekend, a reliable source close to the player’s dealings has revealed.
Nakamba is currently on the books of Luton Town, who will play in League One next season, following their relegation from the English Championship last term.
However, the Zimbabwean midfielder has not featured in Luton Town’s pre-season friendlies, heightening speculation he could be on his way out from the club.
While there is reported interest for Nakamba from Belgium, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United States, it has also emerged that some EPL clubs are targeting the 31-year-old Warriors international.
“It’s true, a number of clubs including those from the EPL have expressed interest.
“So far nothing concrete but you should expect some announcement this weekend,” the source close to the midfielder told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
“The boy is fit again and eager to wrap up his next move should it materialise.’’
Nakamba was conspicuously absent when Luton Town drew 0-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly last Saturday.
His Luton Town coach Matt Bloomfield has also now confirmed that the central midfielder is a target of some top-flight sides.
He said the player’s future with the team had been thrown into big doubt following Luton’s relegation from the Sky Bet Championship to League One.
It was a second successive relegation for Luton Town, who played in the English Premier League in the 2023-2024 season.
Bloomfield spoke to Luton Today newspaper recently: “Marv (Nakamba) has been a fantastic player for our football club, but he’s someone who played in the Premier League two seasons ago and has attracted interest.”
The coach added that Luton management would be willing to listen to the right offers for Nakamba.
Nakamba joined Luton Town from Aston Villa on a three-year deal in July 2023.
The Zimbabwe captain, whose return to fitness should also excite national coach Michael Nees, still has a year left on his contract with The Hatters who are also keen on cashing in on the 31-year-old player, if concrete offers are made.
Nakamba has fully recovered from a nagging injury that saw him miss a number of league games for Luton last season.
He also sat out the resumption of the Warriors 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria and the international friendly matches in Morocco where Zimbabwe played Niger and Burkina Faso in Casablanca.
Since moving to Europe, Nakamba has played for Nancy in France and Vitesse in Netherlands before joining Club Brugge of Belgium in 2017.
He then made a blockbuster move to Aston Villa in 2019.
