WARRIORS midfielder Marvelous Nakamba picked up his first yellow card of the season in his 50th appearance in the English Premiership for Aston Villa when they beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 on Saturday night.

Nakamba made his EPL debut on July 27, 2020, in Villa’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United, and played his eighth league game of the 2021/22 season.

He also started the match in new manager Steven Gerrard’s first game in charge at Villa Park.

The midfielder was elated to play his 50th match as Villa ended a five-match winless streak. Before their win on Saturday, their last set of three points had come on September 25 when they shocked Manchester United 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

The win over Brighton and Hove moved Villa two places up the ladder into 15th with 13 points from 12 games.
“Very proud to make my 50th appearance for this great club. Excellent result today, thanks to our amazing fans for their continuous support,” wrote Nakamba on his Facebook timeline.

The Warriors’ midfielder, who made 13 league appearances in his debut season following a switch from Belgium side Club Brugge in 2020, is likely to surpass his 2020/21 appearances based on his Saturday shift.

Nakamba received rave reviews from Villa fans for his Saturday night performance.

“You were brilliant today. Your part in the goal didn’t go unnoticed either; you were so calm how you controlled it in the box and played a lovely ball to Ashley,” Martin Rammer tweeted.

Another fan Allan Jones concurred, saying: “Agreed, calmly cut out a Brighton chance and started the counter attack in one moment and was just generally solid all game.” — @ZililoR
