THE third-leg of the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) Beach Volleyball series will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Harare this weekend.

ZVA communications officer Dave Simba said: “We anticipate to have a successful competition as it was with the first two legs. Registration for the event is now open and can be done via the association.”

The first and second editions of the series were held in Birchenough Bridge and at the Binga sand beach respectively.

The Binga tourney drew six women’s teams, Amazon, AM Academy 1 and 2 and Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) 1 and 2.

The men’s competition had Mallins, AM Academy, Shalom of Victoria Falls, Bulawayo-based Luvac, More Fire and GZU.

The Amazon pair of Vuyiswa Dlomo and Nyengetari Guyo won the Binga series after beating Tracy Njanji and Lillia Chirandu of AM Academy 1 2-0 to claim gold in the final.

The Luveve High School volleyball academy duo of Handsome Moyo and Kudzaishe Mazviro won the Birchenough Bridge tourney.

ZVA is on a drive to promote beach volleyball in the country with each province being encouraged to adopt beach and sitting volleyball.

Sitting volleyball, also known as Paralympic volleyball, is volleyball for athletes that are physically challenged.
Beach volleyball is played by two teams of two players each on a sand court divided by a net.

As in indoor volleyball, the objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and to ground it on the opponent’s side of the court, and to prevent the same effort by the opponent. — @innocentskizoe
