Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has weighed in on the upcoming ZIFA executive elections, emphasising the need for the new leadership to prioritise player welfare.
As the elections approach, Nakamba expressed his eagerness to see a leader who will address the long-standing issues affecting players, including poor infrastructure, delayed salaries and lack of transparency.
Nakamba acknowledged that there are several befitting candidates vying for the top position, but singled out Nqobile Magwizi as one of the candidates who has shown a keen interest in prioritising player welfare.
“Worldwide, football puts the player needs ahead of everything in structuring of associations and leagues.
“I believe the electorate is aware of this and ready to make the right decision.
“We have so many candidates who are befitting.
“And personally I have no problems with individuals like Nqobile Magwizi taking the leading role at ZIFA. He is someone who has proved that he has an understanding of what it takes to bring in the player’s welfare. That’s also the same with former footballers, they know what it means to be a player.
He added, “It’s sad that players are a vital cog of the football fraternity, but are not prioritised in many instances.”
“So as players we are looking forward to someone who is keen to improve our football infrastructure, upgrade facilities, and bring in training equipment to help players hone their skills.”
Nakamba also highlighted the need for a revitalised domestic competition scene, which would provide players with more platforms to showcase their talents and potentially increase prize money.
The Warriors captain, who has been vocal about player welfare issues in the past, emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the new leadership.
“We want a leader who is able to correct the issues affecting players, including delayed salaries and poor working conditions.”
“Transparency is key, and we hope the new leadership will prioritise this aspect.”
