Nama nominees to be announced soon

The deputy director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (Nacz), Nicholas Moyo, said as usual the names of nominees will be out 10 days before the awards ceremony.

“It’s tradition the nominees will be out on Wednesday next week, as the big day draws near,” he said.

The 12th edition of Nama ceremony will be held in Bulawayo at the Large City Hall, on 16 February.

Over the years Bulawayo has stamped its authority as the cultural hub by having more artists and productions winning the Namas. Its strength has been in theatre and dance categories, but fared badly in music.

This is the first time since the event’s inception in 2002 to be held in the City of Kings. Bulawayo has over the years produced a number of winners in the Namas.

The Nama honour 35 individual artists and groups for their contributions to the country’s music, literature, art, dance, visual arts, media, film and television sectors. There is also a special award category, which is given to people that would have contributed to the development of arts in the country.

As a run-up to the event, Moyo will be in Bulawayo today, where he and other stakeholders will tour the venue where the event will be held.
