NAMIBIAN President Dr Nangolo Mbumba believes the region will continue to progress under the able leadership of new Sadc chairman, President Mnangagwa.

Dr Mbumba made the remarks on Saturday at the 44th Sadc Heads State and Government summit in Harare in his maiden Sadc summit speech after taking over as President of Namibia in February following the death of his predecessor, Dr Hage Geingob.

“Allow me to express my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, on your assumption of the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community.

“I am confident that under your able leadership, we will witness the continuation of the collective efforts and progress that we all aspire to see in the Sadc region,” he said.

President Mbumba said Namibia will respect Sadc’s advice and recommendations during its upcoming elections in November.

“Namibia is scheduled to hold Presidential and National Assembly elections on November 27, 2024. I am pleased to inform the summit that the Sadc Electoral Advisory Council has just concluded its goodwill mission to the Republic of Namibia,” he said.

“As a nation that has enjoyed more than 34 years of peace and stability, we remain committed to the Sadc Principles and Guidelines for Democratic Elections and will respect their findings and will pay attention to their advice and recommendations,” he said.
