THE Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation yesterday hosted a delegation from the National Arts Council of Namibia, which is in the country to witness how the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) are run.

Executive director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Nicholas Moyo, said it’s an honour to be recognised by other countries.

“It’s humbling for Namibia to visit the country for our awards.

“We will get to learn a few things from them and improve our awards.

“As they are here to learn how we have been able to improve and develop our NAMA, we also hope they will help us upgrade.

“We aim to get our artists recognised internationally.

“Our artists are of great value and we are proud of their talent and art works,” said Moyo.

Dr Isobel Green, deputy chairperson of the National Arts Council of Namibia, said they have come to learn.

“We are here to watch and learn from Zimbabwe.

“Namibia is a small country with a smaller population, so we have difficulties in hosting these awards.

“We have noticed that the NAMA improves every year and they get more and more exposure.

“NAMA speaks volumes and the magnitude of these awards attracted us, hence we are here to learn,” she said.
