DYNAMOS goalkeeper Harmony Nare could be set for a transition into coaching after being earmarked for the vacant goalkeepers’ coach position at the Harare giants.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been doubling as a stand-in goalkeepers’ trainer in recent weeks following the departure of Britto Gwere, who was part of the technical team led by former coach Genesis Mangombe.
His dedication and work ethic have reportedly impressed newly-appointed Dynamos technical director Aristica Cioaba, who wants Nare to become part of his backroom staff.
Dynamos chairman Vincent Chawonza said the club was willing to support the Hwange-born goalkeeper in acquiring the necessary coaching qualifications.
“He is already training the goalkeepers and is doing well with the boys. From the look of things, he is happy with the arrangement and, for now, he will continue doubling as a goalkeeper and goalkeepers’ trainer.
“Currently, he is getting the drills from Cioaba, but as a club, we have no problem assisting him to attain his coaching credentials in the near future,” said Chawonza.
Nare joined DeMbare from rivals CAPS United at the start of the season for a second spell in the Premier Soccer League after spending much of his career in the domestic second-tier leagues.
The towering goalkeeper featured briefly at the beginning of the campaign but slipped to third choice following the arrival of Cameroonian goalkeeper Idrissou Finia Nfor.
Despite his reduced role between the posts, Nare has assumed added responsibility off the field and is now working with both Nfor and first-choice goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni during training sessions. Dynamos’ technical department remains understaffed as Cioaba continues to settle into his new role.
The Romanian has recommended Ghanaian coach Lawrence Mawulorm, a member of his previous technical team at Aduana Football Club, to strengthen the bench.
Mawulorm, 35, is already in Zimbabwe and watched from the stands as Dynamos were held to a goalless draw by Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday. A holder of a CAF B Licence, Mawulorm also possesses expertise in performance analysis, scouting, talent identification, and database management.
His expected arrival would provide much-needed reinforcement to a technical bench that was left depleted following the departure of Mangombe and his entire backroom staff, including Newsome Mtema, Tonderai Marume, and goalkeepers’ coach Gwere.
Cioaba has made an encouraging start to life at Dynamos, guiding the Glamour Boys to two victories and a draw in his first three matches in charge.
His tenure began with an emphatic 4-0 win over newcomers Agama before Dynamos followed up with a 2-0 away victory over MWOS at Ngoni last week.
However, the momentum stalled against Simba Bhora, with DeMbare struggling to create clear-cut chances in a match that could have significantly boosted their title ambitions had they collected all three points.
Cioaba acknowledged that his side still has plenty of work to do ahead of today’s tough trip to Mandava Stadium, where they face FC Platinum.
The Dynamos squad returned to training yesterday to prepare for the encounter.
“Every game from now until the end of the season is important because every team needs points, so they are bound to come hard at us,” said Cioaba.
“It’s all about results. We will look at what we did well against Simba Bhora and try to improve on the areas where we fell short.
“Another difficult game awaits us on Wednesday. We have only 48 hours for recuperation, and the players have to travel about 500 kilometres for the match.
“It will be another tough challenge, but we need to manage the situation well, compete strongly, and make sure we do not lose the game. We want to come back with a positive result.” Dynamos are third on the league table with 41 points, nine behind leaders Scottland, as the title race enters a crucial phase.
