National b/ball club championship preps hit top gear

PREPARATIONS for the 2015 National Basketball Club Championship which will to be played at Easter in Manicaland province are at an advanced stage.The championship which was suppose to be hosted by Manicaland last year will see forty teams from all over the country participating.

In last year’s championship Manicaland did not participate as they boycotted after Basketball Union of Zimbabwe refused Manicaland of the chance to host the last  minute.

The top four teams from each of the ten provincial basketball leagues will be the ones to take part, including few female  teams.

Tuarai Dhliwayo the Manicaland Basketball Association Spokesperson has confirmed that almost everything is set for the championship expect for some few funds which are needed to round up the preparations.

“Basketball Union of Zimbabwe last week confirmed that Manicaland will be hosting the national championship and they gave us the dates as well. It will take place from the third to the fifth of April during Easter.

“Forty teams will be participating and other few female teams whose number is not yet certain. Mercenaries, Sophist, Dangamvura and Africa University are the top four teams in the provincial league so they will be the ones representing the province.

“Even though we do not have women’s league, two teams from Manicaland will take part. That is Sharks and Mutare teachers College.
“The preparations for the championships are now at an advanced stage. All the venues are ready. These games will be played at Relton Club, Mutare Sports club and Mutare Boys High School. The finals will be played at Mutare Boys High School.

“However funds still need to be mobilized for the final touches and this will be mainly for the prizes which are trophies and shields. We also call Mutare people to come and witness the games. They are support will take over a long way. Mercenaries and Sophist have been position 3 and 6 respectively in the championship before. This year as Manicaland we are hoping to improve.” said Dhliwayo
