of a new plant in Bulawayo.
This is a clear sign that there is growth in the industry and we are excited that this coincides with the Buy Zimbabwe Week.
For a long time now there has been the question of capacity utilisation within local industry and the move by National Foods is a sign that there is hope for growth of the local industry.
In addition to that, two weeks ago I mentioned the Bulawayo Turnall plant tour scheduled for December 14 as part of the Buy Zimbabwe Week where we have invited the Minister of Water Resources,
Development and Management, Hon Sam Sipepa Nkomo, as the guest of honour.
Clearly, Bulawayo is getting a lifeline courtesy of Buy Zimbabwe partners who are committed to providing jobs in the Matabeleland region that has been starved of any meaningful development over the last couple of years.
As I have mentioned before, Buy Zimbabwe is not for Harare alone and indeed it is not ours alone. It is for the rest of the country.
We invite partnerships with a cross-section of individuals and bodies and recently we have had a number of Christian choral groups jumping onto the Buy Zimbabwe bandwagon.
Our friendship with the Federation of Choral Music in Zimbabwe has seen us record a choral single with the award-winning Chitungwiza Harmony Singers for the Buy Zimbabwe Week. The single aptly titled “Mabasa” (Jobs) speaks clearly of the theme for the Buy Zimbabwe week which is “Buy Zimbabwe, Save a Job”.
The single has been receiving rave reviews.
The purpose of the single is to reduce the complexity of the Buy Zimbabwe Campaign as we take the message to the people of Zimbabwe. The Chitungwiza Harmony Singers have simplified the Buy Zimbabwe message to allow consumers to digest the benefits of buying local.
As part of the Buy Zimbabwe Week numerous choirs shall join the Chitungwiza Harmony Singers as they visit our Buy Zimbabwe partners to share the message with employees.
The realisation for us was that within our partners there are still some staffers that do not fully understand and appreciate what Buy Zimbabwe seeks to achieve and how they stand to benefit so we formulated these visits as a way of creating awareness amongst employees.
For those that may have been following the radio programmes across the radio stations you will have realised that we have been covering a number of interesting topics related to buying Zimbabwe.
One of the interesting topics that has emerged over the last couple of weeks that we shall be discussing today on radio are the recent developments in South Africa on the signing of the Buy SA Accord.
We have invited the president of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce to discuss the implications of the accord and to identify the opportunities, if any, for Zimbabwe.
Till we meet next time . . . let us all continue to support the Buy Zimbabwe Week.
