National Foods introduces new flour premixes

The new range of premixes was launched at a function in Bulawayo on Tuesday night where different operators in the baking industry attended.

National Foods technical director Mr Gary Cooper said the product was introduced in response to a gap in the market.

“As a company we are committed to thrive for quality. Realising the call for improved quality we have come up with a new range of premixes for the bakers,” said Mr Cooper.

“These are the four percent standard bread, five percent superior loaf and the 20 percent sweet bun premixes. Gloria premixes are a combination of salt, sugar, enzymes, fat, emulsifiers and preservatives, which are designed to give the baker a consistently good product all the time, as every batch is tested in a laboratory by our enzyme partners.”

He said two more variants, the five percent crispy roll and the 10 percent soft roll were developed and would be available by the end of next month.

Southern region technical advisor Mr Jonathan Mbwizhu said bakers no longer needed to run around looking for premixes.

“Now the bakers will buy flour with all the premixes at once. This will create a one-stop shop and curb the hustle of customers having to move around looking for ingredients,” said Mr Mbwizhu.

“We have done successful samples with several baking companies and the results were impressive. This will improve the quality of bread and confectionary products.”

TM Ascot supermarket manager Mr Sheppard Msipa said the new products would enhance operations of bakers.

“We are impressed by this new product. It will enhance our operations as bakers. We have benefited tremendously from National Foods and to a certain extent this will cut costs and enhance the quality of our products,”  said Mr Msipa.

Meanwhile, the participants had the opportunity to sample some of the baking products that were on display and expressed satisfaction with the new premixes.

The new product has an extended shelf life of between eight to 12 months. Participants said the product made it easy to control stock and enhances ease of use.

Mr Cooper said the company was working on upgrading its ageing machinery in the Bulawayo branch to enhance improved production.

He also said the company had acquired a generator that will soon be installed for power back up.
