George Maponga in Masvingo
The body of the late national hero Brigadier General (Retired) Elasto Madzingira has this morning arrived at the Madzingira homestead in Chivi North to enable his relatives, friends, and ordinary people to bid him farewell ahead of burial at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow.
Rtd Brig General Madzingira’s body arrived at the Madzingira homestead this morning aboard an Airforce of Zimbabwe helicopter and was in a casket draped with the national flag.
The late national hero’s body was received by the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira, Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial chair Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa, the Permanent Secretary in Minister Chadzamira’s office Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa, service chiefs friends and relatives as a sombre atmosphere engulfed the area as Rtd Brig Gen Madzingira visited his home for the last time before the interment of his remains at the national shrine.
A huge crowd of mourners congregated at the Madzingira homestead for an opportunity to bid farewell to the national hero who died at his Harare home after a short illness on August 8. He was 65.
Rtd Brig General Madzingira’s body will be flown back to Harare this afternoon ahead of burial at the national shrine tomorrow.
President Mnangagwa will preside over the burial of Rtd Brig General Madzingira.
