AFTER a long break, the National Rugby League is expected to get underway today at Old Georgians Sports Club.
Defending champions Old Hararians assistant coach, Derek Chiwara, said they want to start on a good note.
“It has not been easy for us to stay without playing, it has been a long break, and we are all happy that, finally, we are back on the field,” said Chiwara.
“Old Hararians have been training for the past two months and I am confident that the performance tomorrow will be excellent.
“We are definitely going to do well, our play has improved and we still have most of our best players in the team.
“We also have exciting players, Gerald Simba and Shingi Chirumuta, who used to play for Harare Sports Club who are now with us.”
Chiwara will be guiding the team as the head coach after his boss, Cyprian Mandenge, left the country yesterday on a school tour with the Eaglesvale boys team who will be taking part in a festival in South Africa.
Old Hararians will take on Mutare in their league opener while their second team date Old Rams.
Old Georgians date Southern City while Harare Sports Club take on Police.
While the men’s sides will only be busy in the afternoon, the women’s teams will be the first to play in the morning.
Old Hararains player, Charity Mucucuti, is excited that they will plunge back into battle.
“We are all happy and we can’t wait to play and it is obvious that we are going to win the league again,” said Mucucuti.
