THE National Youth Day commemorations have been shifted from Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo to the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) due to rain related weather conditions.

President Mnangagwa will preside over the National Youth Day on Friday where an initial 20 000 youths were expected to participate.

The National Youth Day is being held under the theme: “Empower Youth, Secure the Future.”

The programme will commence with a youth exhibition on Thursday.

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Judith Ncube confirmed the venue’s change.

“On Monday we had a preparatory meeting for the National Youth Day commemorations. Due to the prevailing weather conditions, we resolved that we move the venue for the event from Barbourfields Stadium to ZITF grounds (ZIEC),” said Minister Ncube.

The Meteorological Service Department warned that Matabeleland region and some parts of Midlands will receive heavy rains tomorrow and Thursday.

The weather agency projects that rains will continue to pound most parts of the country beyond Thursday.

She said the province is satisfied with the preparations for the event.
