THE drawing of slots for the forthcoming Zimbabwe National Youth Games has been conducted with Pool A in boys soccer set to be the group of death as it pits past winners. The 11th edition of the youths sporting extravaganza to be held in Bulawayo, runs from 17 to 25 August. Bulawayo played host to the inaugural Youth Games in 2003.
Local organising committee’s assistant general manager Bhekuzulu Khumalo conducted the draw at a city hotel.
In boys soccer, traditional giants Harare, Midlands and hosts Bulawayo as well as Matabaleland North and South are in pool A while in Pool B, Mashonaland West will fight it out with Masvingo, Mashonaland East, Manicaland and Mashonaland Central.
Bulawayo and Harare are set to continue with their rivalry once more with the winner of the group likely to go all the way to the winners’ podium.
Provinces are however warned against underrating Matabeleland North which has been busy with an ambitious programme that if followed could see the province emerging as one of the national powerhouses. Boys soccer will be played at White City Stadium with Barbourfields outside grounds being set aside for girls’ soccer.
Bulawayo were drawn with Manicaland, Masvingo, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland East in the girls soccer Pool A with Pool B comprising Harare, Mashonaland Central, Matabeleland South and North.
