INYATHI High School will this Saturday hold a golf fundraising day at Bulawayo Golf Club in an effort to raise funds to buy a school bus.
The event is being organised by Former Inyathi Students Association (FISA) led by former Highlanders chairman Rodger Muhlwa and Thoko Ndlovu.“It’s part of our efforts to help the school raise funds for a school bus. We are inviting all golf enthusiasts to come forward and participate in the event. Some of the players are expected to come from Mthwakazi Golf Society in Harare as well as South Africa,” said Muhlwa.
He said they will use a four-ball-better ball format.
Four ball is a match pitting two teams of two players (a total of four balls being played, hence the name) against each other using better-ball scoring.
All four players play their own ball throughout and at the end of each hole, the low score between the two partners on each team is that team’s score.
Ndlovu said the event will also be a chance for former students to meet and catch up while assisting the school in its endeavours.
Teeing off is expected just after mid morning and Muhlwa said players can register at the club on the day of the competition.
The event being held at the country’s oldest golf club is also ironic in that Inyathi High School is probably the country’s oldest school, having been built in the 1850s.
Besides Muhlwa, other local golfers expected to tee off include Moses Mlalazi and Dumisani Ndlovu who are former students as well.
