The National Building Society (NBS) has set up temporary offices at Girls High School, the Roman Catholic Cathedral hall and the Exhibition Park, commonly known as Harare Show grounds, to ensure speedy processing of pensioners’ payments ahead of the holidays.
Some media houses recently claimed that NBS was discriminating against pensioners by opening temporary branches for pensioners, far away from the traditional banking halls.
“The correct position is that, in order to decongest its already congested regular branches, NBS secured temporary spaces at Harare Show Grounds, Girls High School and Catholic Cathedral Hall, especially to accommodate and serve its pensioner customers,” said NBS.
“As the key facilitator of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA)’s pension pay-outs, the NBS continues to implement strategies that make the lives of our valued pensioners easier.
“We also appreciate that the Covid-19 pandemic poses significant risks for our pensioners. In this regard, NBS has moved to decongest its banking halls to minimise these risks.”
The move to utilise external facilities allows NBS to put in place cash reserves at these facilities, a development that reduces the need for pensioners to wait in long queues at banking halls.
“We always strive to serve our pensioners better and we are committed to ensuring that all our pensioners receive their pay-outs in cash because there is a significant demand for cash within population,” said NBS.
The financial institution is also educating pensioners on the benefits of transacting on digital platforms, adding that in the near future, pensioner customers shall have the additional option of withdrawing their pensions at certain stores and merchants.
