NATIONAL Building Society (NBS), a subsidiary of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has launched a fund to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with access to financing.
Speaking at the launch in Harare recently, NBS general manager Mr Sifiso Mahlangu encouraged all SMEs to take advantage of opportunities availed by the Government and other sectors.
“Today, we celebrate not only the establishment of the SME Fund but the growth opportunities this funding will open up to our SMEs. I am sure that this will soon usher in the inspiring stories of the success that shall come to this sector as a direct result of the productive funding that this initiative will usher in.
“I urge all SMEs, both banked and unbanked, to register with NSSA so that you can get access to this incredible opportunity and become part of the mainstream banking system. Please take advantage of this opportunity and allow us to hold hands with you and walk side by side with you in your business journeys, as we assist you to thrive and grow,” he said.
The fund seeks to promote financial inclusion, encourage growth of informal and SME sector businesses into big corporations, and provide accessible funding solutions to a diverse range of businesses, specifically those in underserved communities.
Mr Mahlangu said NBS strives to be a bank of choice, committed to SMEs’ growth, and success, and ensuring fulfillment of dreams.
Mr Mahlangu said the bank was grateful to NSSA for consistent support and guidance and unwavering dedication to fostering innovation and growth in the SME sector.
“Their (NSSA) deliberate decision to avail funding for SMEs through NBS exemplifies a powerful partnership aimed at empowering and capacitating our small and medium enterprises.
NBS head of marketing Ms Mildred Kujinga said the bank is committed to fostering financial inclusion.
“To the SMEs who are here today and who have shared their inspiring journeys, thank you for demonstrating the potential that exists when businesses are empowered with the right tools and resources. Your stories will undoubtedly motivate others to take that leap forward.
“Our mission with the SME Fund is clear, to promote financial inclusion, encourage the formalisation of the informal sector, to bank small to medium businesses and offer accessible funding solutions to a wide range of businesses. We are particularly excited to focus on women-owned businesses, SME exporters, and sustainable enterprises, along with launching financial literacy and formalisation symposiums nationwide that will assist and benefit all,” she said.
She encouraged SMEs to share the good news with other informal businesses so that they all play a part and contribute to building a more inclusive economy where every business can thrive especially with NBS as we bank.
