NCA ditched

Herald Reporter
The National Constitutional Assembly is singing the blues after its traditional allies in the civic society abandoned it following its transformation from a voluntary organisation into a fully fledged political party two weeks ago. The new party was left in the cold at a time when it mattered most as it is in dire financial constraints.

Professor Lovemore Madhuku who is the party’s interim leader was quoted in the media recently admitting that NCA was deserted by its traditional Western donors.

NCA’s affiliate organisations reacted angrily to a statement issued by Professor Madhuku confirming that NCA’s congress resolved to transform the organisation into a political party.

Civic organisations are withdrawing their membership from the former constitutional body en-masse citing conflicting interests. The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association which is a long time ally of NCA said it had withdrawn its membership with immediate effect.

Founding member of the NCA, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches said it was no longer a member of the organisation.
