Party funds missing

MDC-T has suspended Mashonaland East provincial administrator, Ms Gwyneth Ganya, for allegedly embezzling US$23 000 meant for party election agents in a case that has also sucked in provincial chairperson, Mr Piniel Denga. Insiders say MDC-T secretary general, Mr Tendai Biti, wrote a letter suspending Ms Ganya after an audit unmasked massive irregularities in which Mr Denga reportedly was “unfaithful” with party funds.

“The province conducted an audit after she disbursed the funds and it was found out that there were some irregularities,” said a source. “Out of US$ 75 000, she only disbursed US$52 000 and pocketed the difference.

“Further investigations were carried out and it was found out that the provincial chairperson was involved. He donated his car for disbursement of the funds and the vehicle was involved in an accident.

The provincial management committee resolved that no money from the party coffers would be spent on the vehicle because they unilaterally used the vehicle without the leadership’s knowledge.
