Ncube for Harare town clerk?

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing permanent secretary Engineer George Mlilo has tipped Harare City Council chamber secretary Mrs Josephine Ncube to become the next town clerk.

Eng Mlilo, who was speaking at a Local Government stakeholders meeting on Wednesday, said when women are in charge, the issue of corruption is minimised.

“I have no apology that I can support the appointment of women as long as it is backed by sound qualifications. There is no reason why she (Mrs Ncube) should not get the job,” he said.

“What I do not want is a situation whereby a woman with lesser qualifications and capabilities is given a job because of their gender. If you do that, you will be destroying the nation.”

A record 100 people are vying for the Harare town clerk’s position which fell vacant in August last year.
