Ndaz names 36-member squad to prepare for AUSC

THE National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) has named a provisional 36-member national squad to prepare for the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Darts Championships set for Lusaka, Zambia, from August 21-27. The list will be trimmed down to 18 after the June 4 national trials at Munyati Power Station.

According to Ndaz president Meynard Moyo, the final selection process would be intense as they want to come up with a strong squad that will challenge for honours in Lusaka.

The provisional squad includes five Under-25 men and four Under-25 female players.

“From the 20 men we called up, we’re going to remain with eight seniors and two over 50 years old players as well as an equal number for our Under-25,” said Moyo.

He said only six women would be selected for the seniors and two over 50s.

“Just like in the men’s section, the Under-25 women will be represented by two players and from the numbers we called, it shows clearly that whoever will make it into the final team would have to be extremely good,” Moyo said.

Among those vying for the two slots in the over 50s category is the Bulawayo duo of Moses Ndlovu and Ndumiso Tshuma, who together with Mashonaland West’s David Nyemba, are some of the longest serving darts players in the country.

The Archers duo of Albert Tawanda and Brian Ndlovu will also fancy their chances in the eight-man senior squad.

Josephine Jones, Thandiwe Sidlodlo and Bianca Nkala are part of the provisional squad in the women’s section and would also want to represent the country in Zambia.
