Ndiraya salutes Big C

AT a time he is celebrating another milestone in his blossoming coaching career, two-time Castle Lager Premier Soccer League winner Tonderai Ndiraya, is not forgetting the name Cephas Maseva.

Ndiraya is on cloud nine after guiding debutants Scottland to a historic top flight league championship.

Mabviravira are the first team since 1984 when Black Rhinos won the then Super League on their debut,to win the top flight championship at the first attempt.
Ndiraya also led Simba Bhora to their maiden title last season.

While most of the praise is often showered on the technic

al team and players, there is a backroom staff that is usually forgotten in the hour of glory.

Security guru, Maseva, who is popularly known as Big C in local football circles, is one such.

The 51-year-old Maseva has now won seven championship medals as security officer.

He was a security officer when Dynamos won the championship in 2007.

He was promoted to the post of Head of Security in 2008 when DeMbare reached the CAF Champions League semis.

Maseva held on to that post until 2016 and was the chief security officer when Dynamos won four straight league titles under Kalisto Pasuwa between 2011 and 2014.

Ndiraya’s was Pasuwa’s assistant.

When Ndiraya joined Simba Bhora in 2023, Maseva followed suit.

Simba Bhora won a historic championship in 2024, becoming the first team from Mashonaland Central to achieve such a feat.

When Ndiraya left Simba Bhora for Scottland, Maseva followed suit and the duo is celebrating another league title.

“Cephas Maseva has done exceptionally well as Chief Security Officer for Dynamos, Simba Bhora and currently at Scottland.

“He has lots of experience and gets along well with the people he works with,” Ndiraya told Zimpapers Sports Hub.

Added Ndiraya: “He supervises the other members of the security team well and the players feel well protected in his presence.

“He is a loyal and trusted servant who has served three championship winning teams with me and with distinction.”

Now 51, Maseva grew up in Chitungwiza at his aunt’s house in the Unit O section.

He was a staunch Dynamos supporter who also loved to visit the gym regularly.

“Gone are the days when members of security used to harass fans or officials, vaya vainzi mamonya.

“Now, the role of a Safety and Security Officer is to make sure everyone involved in the football team is safe.

“This includes fans, officials and players,” said Maseva, a CAF trained Safety and Security Officer.

“I was a staunch Dynamos supporter and at the same time I was also into body building.

“So it was natural that I would join DeMbare’s security team. I have moved on now and I am enjoying my work at Scottland.

“It’s also exciting working with an intelligent coach like Ndiraya,” Maseva added.
