VETERAN sports administrator Cleopas Gochera, owner of the Sagittarius Wrestling Club and a former technical advisor of the Association of Associated Wrestling Styles of Zimbabwe, has made a comeback after a 22-year sabbatical.
The veteran wrestler is also a former vice president of the Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation.
Gochera, who walked away from the sport after a series of clashes with the Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation, recently announced the comeback.
“In the past, my relationship with the Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation was frosty. We often clashed over several issues,” he said.
“I am happy to say that I am now in a better working relationship with the federation, hence my comeback,” the 61-year-old former amateur wrestler said.
Now based in Guruve, he has since turned a part of his farm into a wrestling training ground.
“I simply relocated the club from Mabvuku in Harare to Guruve. I am currently recruiting and teaching locals the basics of the sport.”
The new recruits are taught Beach, Greco Roman and Free style wrestling.
Asked why he decided to revive the club when he is well past his prime, Gochera said he wants to leave a legacy and help popularise the sport.
“Our club is not for Guruve residents only. Any interested person from anywhere in the country is allowed to come. I want to leave a legacy and help popularise the sport before I finally retire,” Gochera, who was flanked by members of the club executive, said.
