Ndiraya wants Glamour Boys back at Rufaro

Bruce Chikuni

DYNAMOS coach, Tonderayi Ndiraya, believes the solution for his side’s failure to win the league championship is a return to Rufaro.

Herentals pulled more fans than the Harare giants early this month when Dynamos lost 0-1 to the Students.

And, it sums up how the club’s fans have been ditching their team.

Some are saying it’s too expensive to travel to the National Sports Stadium, considering that the PSL gate charges are also too steep for them.

Ndiraya has appealed to the authorities to facilitate a quick return to their traditional fortress at Rufaro.

He said their rivals Highlanders use Barbourfields and are not complaining that much.

Bosso have been the most consistent team in pulling large numbers in their home and away fixtures.

“It’s our appeal to the authorities to ensure that Rufaro Stadium is renovated so that we go back where we belong in Mbare,” said Ndiraya.

“I’m super confident that if we go back there, we can attract larger crowds than we are getting at the National Sports Stadium.

“Even during our days, it was difficult to fill up the NSS, so it is our hope that just like Bosso, we are allowed to play where our fan base resides.

“It is a bit expensive to watch a Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium and I think in Mbare it’s quite affordable.

“If that happens, hopefully we can then push on until we get the team where it needs to be,” he said.

Rufaro last hosted a Premiership match in the last campaign before it was red flagged by ZIFA.

And, just towards the end of this season, the ZIFA Northern Region Division One League gave the nod to Harare City Cubs to use Rufaro as their turf.

It even hosted the First Division Axis Solutions Super8 Cup final in which attracted a sizeable number of fans.
