IF Tonderai Ndiraya wins the league championship, as is expected, he will know that his superb man management skills played a very big role in this campaign.
There were concerns that he would struggle to handle players who had some problems at their previous clubs.
“As a coach, you should know what these players can give and how best to help bring the best out of them,” he said.
“Football is about quality and most of these players have lots of it so it’s all about managing their characters.
“You can be a good coach, but if you are not a good manager, then it becomes difficult for you to work with those so-called difficult players.
“The journey will never be easy but if you are able to form a unit and play with one purpose, it can take you this far.”
When Patson Jaure joined Simba, he had been unceremoniously forced out of Dynamos.
Tichaona Chipunza had just returned from a short stint at Zambian top-flight side Nkana.
Tymon Mvula and Blessing Makunike also left Dynamos out of frustration while Walter Musona found a home in Shamva following an enforced exit from FC Platinum.
“For me, it is about managing the characters and I have so far worked well with them,” said Ndiraya.
“At some clubs, it is a case of lack of proper technical systems which make it difficult for them to manage employees.
“We simply put systems in place, we agreed on the dos and don’ts on disciplinary issues as stated in our code of conduct.
“At times you need to have candid conversations with them and I think this has taken us this far.
“Sometimes, you have to be happy around the players for them to observe the rules, at times be strict, mingle with them or even blend all these aspects.”
