“Allegations” was written by Mandisi Gobodi and directed by Patience Tawengwa.
An elated Ndlovu said: “I am so proud to be awarded outside the country again, unlike our own Nama awards where you have to apply for you to get nominated for an award. The festival was an awesome experience. Every show was different from the other and there was a lot to learn about stage and performing craft.”
“Allegations” tour of South Africa was supported by Swiss Arts Council and the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation. The Zimbabwean play won ahead of internationally acclaimed plays such as “Sometimes I Laugh Like My Sister” from London and “Half Empty Half Full” also from Zimbabwe.
“I would like to thank my co-actor Tomas Brickhill without whom I would not have made it and my director Patience (Tawengwa) not forgetting Brezhnev Guveya for the sound and Mandisi (Gobodi), the writer of the play.
Over the years, I’ve learnt that it’s not easy to make theatre audiences believe in the performance you give in a show but at the Musho International Theatre Festival 2013, I convinced them and made them believe,” Ndlovu added.
This is not the first time Ndlovu has won an award at an international festival. He got the Upcoming Actor Award at the April International Theatre Festival 2005 for his role in “All Systems Out of Order” written, directed and produced by Tafadzwa Muzondo.
