NDOLWANE Super Sounds front man Martin Sibanda has partnered Plan International in road show campaigns aimed at raising awareness discouraging early marriages in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North.
The awareness campaigns are being held under the theme, “Child marriage is child abuse”.
The group popularly known as Amajongosi continues to ramp their efforts in the education and entertainment industry.
In an interview with Sunday Life after one of the shows, Thandazani Nyoni, the group’s manager and publicist could not hide his band’s contribution in edutainment.
“Our music is greatly followed in Tsholotsho and we are pleased by the turnout especially in areas like Tshefunye, Siphepha and Tsholotsho Centre. We thank our fans for this great support. They always believe in us. We left them asking for more since time was no longer permitting.”
Nyoni said songs like; Bakhuzeni, Sekukubi, Ukhulile, Izalizelwe, Uhluphile, Phenduka among many others were quite popular with their fans.
Nyoni was grateful to Plan International on rolling such educative campaigns using music.
“I thank Plan International for recognising our potential in the music industry. It is actually a great honour to have such partnership. They have worked with us since 2014. The message in our music talks about social life among all ages in society hence they are not only for joy,” added Nyoni.
The road shows were attended by various stakeholders concerned with protection of the girl child. There were speakers from all concerned groups such as Women Affairs, Home Affairs, Childline, Young People Network and Ministry of Health and Child Care,” he said.
He added that parents were warned to stop supporting child marriages, instead such cases should be reported to the police while school children were warned about dangers of engaging in early sex and child marriages as they risk contracting sexual transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies and in the process disturb their future which can be improved through education. – @joeltsvakwi
