adminpleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.
Mr Jarabini slapped him with a two-year prison term, but set aside six months on condition of good behaviour.
In passing sentence, Mr Jarabini noted that cases of assault were on the rise in the area and leading to murder.
Mr Jarabini said it was the court’s right to punish people of Chipere’s nature and a custodial sentence would send a clear message to other would-be offenders. Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved that on December 6 and at around 11am, at Tsunga Village, Chipere proceeded to the grazing area where Charles Mazipetele (27) of plot 27 in the same area was herding cattle.
On arrival, he demanded his axe back, which Mazipetele had borrowed earlier.
Mazipetele told him that he could not find it where he had put it.
This angered Chipere leading to a heated argument.
The enraged Chipere started punching and slapping his neighbour.
After that, he picked a stone and threw it at Mazipetele and hit him on the left eyelid.
