A Matsheumhlope resident was left groaning in agony after two neighbourhood watch members accused him of being a thief before  ordering him to lie on his stomach and taking turns to step on his back several times while also twisting his privates.

The pair of Carl Anthony Jacobs (31) and Kyle Bennet (26) confronted Nyashadzashe Mtombeni (35) when he was about to reach a T-junction where Sable Road and Moffat Avenue meet and allegedly accused him of being a thief. They pointed a pistol at him and ordered him to disembark from his car.

He allegedly agreed but had second thoughts and beat a hasty retreat and sped off movie-style, leaving the pair shocked.

It is said the pair gave chase and they caught up with him at his home before he had disembarked from his car. The duo ordered Mtombeni to disembark from his car.

They ordered him to lie on the ground. It is alleged the pair took turns to step on his back several times. The court heard they were pointing a pistol at his head.

They went a gear up in their assault as they allegedly kicked him all over the body. It is said they also pulled his privates and twisted them leaving him wailing and groaning in agony. The complainant was saved from further assault by an elderly man.

It is said Mtombeni sustained pains under his ribs and on his right side of his chest, bruises on left elbow, swollen testicles as a result of the assault. Mtombeni said his vehicle suffered damages for which he would need US$1 500 for repairs.

The pair appeared before magistrate Stephen Ndlovu facing assault charges. They pleaded not guilty and were remanded out of custody to next week on Monday for trial.
