A  dispute over the use of water from a community borehole has landed a man in court.

He accuses his neighbours of abusing and insulting him.

Knowledge Ngove appeared before Magistrate Meenal Naratom seeking a peace order against his neighbour, Shingirai Chigavanyika, who has been accusing him of insulting and attacking him. Shingirai told the court that trouble began when he started washing his cars at the community borehole, which is the only source of water for the residents.

His neighbors, including Knowledge, allegedly confronted him, demanding that he pay for the water he was using.

“I was just washing my car, and suddenly they were on my neck, saying I was wasting water and that I should pay for it, yet I contributed money for the drilling of that borehole.

“It is called a community borehole, which means l have every right to use that water. l tried to reason with them, but they only want me to pay for the water l am using to wash my cars.

“Knowledge assaulted me when I told him that I cannot afford to pay them US$1 every day because I have a lot of cars,” he said.

Knowledge alleged that Shingai had been insulting and attacking him whenever he tried to reason with him.

“He has been using the borehole water to wash his cars every day, and when I approached him about it, he became aggressive and started insulting me.

“Each time he sees me walking with my girlfriend, he attacks me.

“I am now afraid of my safety, that’s why I am  seeking a peace order against him.”

Magistrate Naratom granted Knowledge a peace order refraining Shingai from insulting and attacking him.
