MATHETSHANENI villagers of Tsholotsho will be treated to a football and netball tournament on August 11 at their local sports facility.

The event will be held to celebrate the grand opening of Mathetshaneni Mall by Tsholotsho businessman Promise Letha of B. Makhokhoba Investments.

Winners at the tournament will get cash prices for both netball and soccer.

Teams that will be participating in the tournament are Mathetshaneni, Bubude, Mathe, Mafusini, Nkuzi, Dlula, Chefunye, Mthonjeni, Dinyani, Sakoya Mbamba, Plan C Ntoli, Sunduzwayo and Ntunungwe.

The event organiser Promise ‘Mapressa’ Sibanda said that this event is also an awareness tool and a launch of the Mathetshaneni Mall.

“This event is meant to motivate youths to stay away from drugs and alcohol, drug abuse has become a societal evil which has destroyed and killed our future generations.

“The host, Promise Letha has organised such tournaments before. It is also his way of giving back to the community, which supports his businesses,” said Sibanda.

The event is expected to be graced by the local MP Musa Ncube and all ward councilors for the participating teams.
“We are also expecting soccer scouts from Bulawayo to be on the lookout for raw talent which is vast in the Tsholotsho District,” said.

Sibanda also said that there is going to be a variety of activities for all age groups.

“This event will have different activities for the young and the old, the most interesting activity will be ‘ukudengezela’ (balancing an object on one’s head) for older women whereby the winner will get 50kg mealie-meal which also comes as a drought relief to the community.

“For the youths, there is a bicycle challenge whereby the winner will go away with a brand new bicycle, this is quite motivating to the youth and the community as a whole because there has never been such a challenge in the district and have only seen it on television and bicycles are a best mode of transport in rural areas,” said Sibanda.
