A TOTAL of 100 people – including the elderly – staying in road traffic accident prone areas of Rusape and Nyanga were last week on Thursday awarded with certificates of proficiency in first responders course.
The road traffic accident first responders course, which was meant to impart industrial first aid skills that include how to approach an accident scene and handling of patients among other skills, was facilitated by the Red Cross Society of Zimbabwe which was contracted by the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ).
Speaking during the certificate presentation ceremony at Tombo Two Business Centre, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona said: “I am really touched by the presence of the elderly among those who received certificates here. It is good to see the elderly setting the right example for the young.
We sincerely hope that this initiative will go a long way in easing the burden for road traffic accident victims. This initiative is part of many others that Government is undertaking to ease the burden in the event of road accidents.”
The certificate is valid for three years after which retraining is needed.
Rowa community along Mutare-Masvingo Highway is where the next cohort of first responders course will be trained.
