NEW: 28 000 ‘mushikashika’ impounded

Police have impounded over 28 000 ‘mushikashika’ (illegal transport operators) since Operation Chishikashika Ngachipere began in January. 

The operation is targeting pirate taxis, as well as vehicles operating without number plates. 

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said police are in control of the situation. 

“We have an operation which has been on the ground, and we have so far impounded 28 173 vehicles,” he said.
