OVER 50 students graduated on Saturday at the Zimbabwe College of Pathology at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Former chairman of the Medical Laboratory Council, and guest speaker at the event, Dr Obadiah Moyo, said:
“The general goal of this diploma course is to prepare laboratory professionals to be knowledgeable of emerging technologies and new diagnostic, prognostic, and monitoring strategies in public health.“
He added that clinical laboratory techniques are the backbone of medicine, and a dynamic health care environment requires clinical laboratory practitioners to understand management and regulatory issues encompassing the practice of clinical laboratory science.
The registration of Medical Laboratory Scientists is regulated by the Health Profession Authority (HPA) of Zimbabwe, through the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe (MLCSCZ).
Graduates of this program will have the competencies necessary to perform the full range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as clinical biochemistry, hematology, hemostasis, immunology, immunohematology, transfusion medicine, histology and cytology, microbiology, urine and body fluid analysis, molecular diagnostics, laboratory operations, and other emerging diagnostics.
