NEW: 84 players get licences for industrial hemp

THE Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) says farmers continue to show interest in industrial hemp farming, as there has been an increase in licensed producers. 

Updating on its Twitter handle, AMA said industrial hemp farming was on the rise. 

“Industrial hemp farming is generating lots of interest. So far, AMA has licensed 84 players (47 cultivators, 23 merchants, 14 researchers).” 

According to AMA, application for a permit to cultivate industrial hemp is US$200, while application for permit to conduct research on industrial hemp is US$200. 

Renewal of permit to cultivate industrial hemp costs US$200, and application for renewal of permit to conduct research on industrial hemp is pegged at US$200. 

Application for variation or amendment of a permit is US$200, while application for an import/export permit is US$200, and application for a merchant permit is US$500. 

The application for renewal of a merchant’s permit is US$500. 

And inspection fees are set at US$200, which is payable to the Plant Quarantine Services.
