NEW: Zim musician on continental World Cup theme song

Zimbabwean songbird, Shingai Shoniwa, is among the four artists and groups which performed on the official FIFA World Cup theme song for its African fans.

Shingai, as she is simply known, fronted United Kingdom indie band, ‘The Noisettes’, before she went solo in 2017.

Two years after she dropped her debut album, Too Bold in 2022, Shingai is on a major continental project.

In a statement, New World TV – who obtained the FIFA World Cup license covering most Francophone countries and FIFA – said the song will be dedicated to fans of African teams who will be part of the competition.

“On y est” (*we are in), a song and its music video dedicated to those who feel inspired by Africa and wish to support our qualified African teams.

“This shows once again our commitment to make this Premium tournament a celebration in the continent, reach the Diaspora and beyond,” said Nimonka Kolani, managing director of New World Sport through the statement.

Shingai features alongside Manifest from Ghana, Bass Thioung (Senegal) and Samuel Makanzi (Rwanda/Congo DRC).

The song, whose video was shot in different locations across the continent, was produced by French footballer and former Paris Saint-Germain star, Guillaume Hoarau.

The song will be available on online platforms from November 14.
